Hector Xavier Mansegur (otherwise as known as the notorious LulzSec hacker/backstabber Sabu) has just been sentenced to time served plus one year “supervised release.” In other words—Sabu’s walking.

During this year-long period (and on top of a $1200 fine), Sabu, his vehicle, and his residence will be subject to search pretty much any time an officer thinks he’s doing something he shouldn’t be.

Which, all told, is pretty light as far as punishments go; prosecutors had been seeking a seven-month prison sentence. But then, that’s what happens when you agree to fully cooperate with the FBI for months on end, helping secure the arrests of multiple former cronies.

Closing out the sentencing, the judge made sure to suggest that Sabu “deploy his tech skills for good,” which would likely mean continuing to act as an aid for the FBI in all their hacker needs. Interestingly enough, the judge finished with, “l salute for your teachings.” Sounds like Sabu is good at hunting down his buddies.
