The Best Way to Measure Snowfall in NYC Is This 3D Animation

It's been a snowy winter in the Big Apple. But don't take our word for it. Look at this great little animated infographic that the New York Times put together that shows snow accumulation since January.

The GIF shows only a part of the full animation, and no, you're not looking at a game of Minecraft. It's actually a timelapse of snow depth estimates every hour between January 20th and March 4th. The data comes from the National Weather Service and was artfully illustrated by a group of NYT designers.

Yep, we've seen a lot of ups and downs this winter, though surprisingly it looks like it won't be the snowiest NYC winter on record. Through February it was 5th in the rankings. But hot-damn it's sure felt like an endless deluge of white. Check out the full map at the NYT. [NYT]
