I've seen the shuttle crossing the Sun's path. I've seen the International Space Station 's solar transit. But I've never seen the shuttle docking to the ISS against the Sun's surface. A unique, awesome view of two beautiful machines.
The photo was taken on May 16, just as Atlantis begun the backflip to allow the astronauts in the ISS to photograph its belly.
The most amazing thing, however, is that the photographer only had 0.54 seconds to take the photo, exactly the duration of the transit. [Astrosurf]
