The audio of Jonathan Ng’s short film Requiem for Romance consists of a phone call between two lovers, but the visuals add to the sense of heartbreak, portraying the couple as inky combatants in a kung fu battle.
Ng explains that he was inspired by 1950s Shanghai water ink animation in addition to kung fu films when he created Requiem. He sells prints of key moments from the short, as well as DVDs of the film, at his website.
