Roboticists at Taiwan’s National Chiao-Tung University have built a robotic arm that can shoot hoops by gauging the position of the basket and the angle the basketball needs to be tossed.
Here’s video of the robot in action. So far, the arm isn’t going to win any HORSE contests, but it does score points for its mildly unnerving sealskin bodysuit. If Terminator was a G-rated family film about a cybernetic pinniped who travels back in time to win the big game for John Connor, this machine would be the star. Also, Skynet would become sentient in a Chuck E. Cheese.
