What new series are in your friendly neighborhood comic shop this week? First off, Mike Mignola and John Arcudi pen the inaugural issue of Witchfinder: Lost And Gone Forever (Dark Horse), a weird Western about Hellboy paranormal investigator Edward Grey seeking out the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra. DC kicks off the 26-issue biweekly series DC Universe Online: Legends, which follows the story of the recently released MMORPG. For splashy heroics, Superman: 80-Page Giant 2011 (DC) features seven new Kryptonian tales, and Transformers: Infestation (IDW) introduces the notion of undead robots in disguise. For comics offering jumping on points, Jeff Lemire’s Sweet Tooth (DC/Vertigo) serves up a stand-alone tale about winter in the manimal post-apocalypse, and Matt Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man 500.1 (Marvel) has a story specially tailored to new readers.

As for bookshelf fare, there’s the graphic novel Pandora’s Eyes (Humanoids), which features artwork by the legendary erotic artist Milo Manara. In the book, a gorgeous woman possesses evil eyes with their own sinister, ocular intent. Warren Ellis’ Thor: World Engine (Marvel) gets a reprint, and Grant Morrison’s time-traveling Dark Knight story Batman The Return Of Bruce Wayne (DC) is collected in hardcover. A particularly noteworthy graphic novel to come out this week is Brazilian brothers Gabriel Bá and Fabio Moon’s Daytripper (DC/Vertigo). This hauntingly beautiful book tells the life story of an obituary writer and the many potential paths (and deaths) that could color his existence. Recommended.
