AT&T is delivering an unpleasant message to some of its subscribers today, Businessweek reports—some of their accounts were attacked by unknown hackers.

AT&T's alert says "We recently detected an organized and systematic attempt to obtain information on a number of AT&T customer accounts, including yours. We do not believe that the perpetrators of this attack obtained access to your online account or any of the information contained in that account." Luckily, The Big Blue Ball claims only 1 percent of its customers were attacked—but 1 percent of millions is a lot of people. Were you one of them? Let me know.

Update: Here's AT&T's official reply: We recently detected what could have been an organized attempt to obtain information on a number of customer accounts. The people in question appear to have used "auto script" technology to determine whether AT&T telephone numbers were linked to online AT&T accounts. No accounts were breached and our investigation is ongoing to determine the source or intent of the attempt to gather this information. In the meantime, out of an abundance of caution, we are advising the account holders involved. [Businessweek]

I hate AT&T now. If you're late they charge you an extra 30-45$ for your cable and 30$ for your Internet bill. They call it a restoral fee but I've never had my services turned off... Now I think they charge me the fees whenever they bloody well feel like it. Hate them.
