Toshiba and MemoryTech announced a dual-format disc yesterday with both DVD and HD DVD layers. This isn’t something you should flip out over, but it’s a feather in the cap of HD DVD. We reported on a similar development from the Blu-Ray crowd a couple months back, but that was just a CD/Blu-Ray hybrid. There’s no DVD/Blu-Ray hybrid yet.
So with all these newfangled hybrid discs flying around, the question becomes, would it be possible to create a Blu-Ray/HD DVD hybrid? Man, that sure would piss a lot of people off. Either way, there haven’t been too many announcements about a sort of bridge between DVD and whatever, so Toshiba and MemoryTech have taken a step in the right direction.
