The latest data from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows California experienced a major, state-wide dip in drought severity this week, following record-setting rainfall – but the state still has a long way to go.

According to this morning’s report, more than three-quarters of California is still experiencing “extreme drought,” while nearly a third remains in a state of harsher, “exceptional drought.” For reference, here’s what the state looked like a year ago:
The last time California’s drought map was clear was back in 2011. We’ll see how long it takes to return to that condition.
