When Curiosity looks up into the sky, what does it see? On August 1st, it saw the Martian moons Phobos and Deimos and was able to capture them in a single image.
This is a raw image from Curiosity, taken from the surface of Mars. Phobos is the moon that appears larger in the image; Deimos is the smaller blob.
Emily Lakdawalla of the Planetary Society, who spotted this image, notes that it also looks like Curiosity has captured video of the moons’ movement across the sky. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing those soon.
