Is it a true change of heart or is he just psyching himself up to say yes to the dump truck of money the franchise gives him?
At the New Yorker Festival on Friday, Daniel Craig was given the opportunity to give some perspective on his now infamous Time Out interview where he said that, having just finished making Spectre, “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists” than do it again. Also that “all I want to do is move on,” “I just don’t want to think about it. I don’t know what the next step is,” and “if I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”
Now, a year later, he’s rested and less angry. He’s mostly learned that “shit sticks, and that definitely stuck.” He continued on to say,“It was the day after filming [stopped on Spectre]. I’d been away from home for a year.” Basically, the whole thing was so exhausting that he was fed up during the interview. But time has mellowed him. You know, like how people forget just how painful childbirth is once they start wanting to have another kid.
To be fair, the original interview does have Craig saying repeatedly that his feelings are only the ones that he had “now” and that he was over it “at the moment.” Of course, he did then say that he’d only do it again for the money.
Craig then employed his trademark lack of empathy for complaining, adding, “Boo-hoo. It’s a good gig. I enjoy it.”
