Fisting a Multitouch Screen Looks Pretty Fun

Microsoft Surface is a technology that I know exists but wish it was a larger part of my life. And it’s getting better! Microsoft Research has been dabbling with Surface and adding new gestures that incorporate your whole hand, giving you more options than just point, point, point.

The screen now recognizes shapes you make with your hand, with each shape taking on a different action. It’s pretty interesting! A rock can create a proxy or uniform scale, a rail can set a ruler and barrier or non-uniform scale and a curved rail allows you to rotate an image.

The idea is to move away from the typical multitouch gestures we’re limited by on small screens so we can be more versatile with bigger screens. The more ways I can touch a screen sounds good by me. Watch the video of the gestures at Microsoft Research. [Microsoft Research via CrunchGear]
