Olivia Munn's original Iron Man 2 cameo is now on the cutting room floor. But instead of losing her entirely director Jon Favreau decided to recast and reshoot her as an entirely new character. Who's she playing now? Vote below.
In an interview with Complex Magazine, Munn spilled the beans:
You're in two gigantic movies this year. Let's talk about Iron Man 2 first because it's ****ing Iron Man 2.
Olivia Munn: Actually, they just gave me another role in the film. I had to reshoot all of my scenes.
Wait, didn't they start filming like last year or something?
Olivia Munn: Yeah, but as they started to edit they realized it was becoming darker than what they'd expected and what my scenes had allowed for. My parts were lighthearted and comedic.
Yikes.
Olivia Munn: Jon Favreau called and was like, "I've got good news and bad news: This is what's happening in editing but we all really like you." Marvel and Jon had to add another character from the Marvel universe to keep me included.
I need details! Tell us anything about the old or new role.
Olivia Munn: I can't talk specifics because it's Iron Man 2! But when they call, you say, "OK, I'm there. What do you need?" You don't say, "Who is this Marvel? Did you call my agent? Is FIJI Water on set?" Everyone knows who the stars are in this movie. I'm not one of them and I understand the editing process. Some things don't work out.
What if you'd stayed on the cutting room floor?
Olivia Munn: I would've started crying.
So who could she be playing? Here are some possibilities:
Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff)
There was an internet rumor circulating that Munn is playing Wanda Maximoff, or the Scarlet Witch. Which works nicely with the rumored Stan Lee cameo, where he's said to be popping up as Scarlet Witch's brother Stan Lee. Can you see Munn putting the Hex on her enemies?
Iron Maiden (Melina Vostokoff)
Before the rumors started that Munn was playing Scarlet Witch, there were rumors that she was the Iron Maiden. This works well, since this character is an enemy of Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow. Could this be the "darker" character Munn was recast as?
The Wasp (Janet van Dyne)
Munn could be the next Wasp, the Avenger who can shrink down to mere centimeters and fly — but we're not so sure the studio would cast Munn in a role that has potential to be a lot bigger in the future.
Rumiko Fujikawa
Future love interest for Tony, which really never goes anywhere? Sounds perfect. Adding this character would be a nice nod to a past story that doesn't have a place in this film, but maybe the next. Especially if Tony's armor goes rogue and tries to kill him. Fukikawa is the daughter of Kenjiro Fujikawa, a businessman who takes over Stark's company while he's otherwise occupied.
Madame Masque (Whitney Frost)
Sexy socialite turned robotic genius. Has a great back story with S.H.I.E.L.D., plus why not add some more bad guys? That never backfires... Oh, wait.
Maria Hill
A member of S.H.I.E.L.D. who could easily be puttering around in the background with a massive touch screen laying out our planet's defense systems. Has Easter Egg written all over it.
Tigra (Greer Grant)
Munn in a literal catsuit? We feel like that would appeal to the larger demographic. Plus, half-cat people are in right now.
Head Ironette
A last minute change-up that doesn't change the canon, but still has Munn in a tiny outfit. She could easily be Iron Man's head back-up dancer. That's a no-brainer.
