Two artists have teamed up for a 52-piece art show that gives each letter of the alphabet a pop culture twist. Figuring out what’s depicted in each piece is only half the fun.
“Alphabitz” is a two-man show by Tom Whalen and Dave Perillo, opening Friday, August 18 at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, CA. Both artists tackled every letter, digging deep to come up with images all tied to that letter. The results are always random, always cool, and occasionally laugh-out-loud hilarious.
We’re excited to debut a few pieces from the show, which will remain on exhibit through September 9. Can you figure these all out?
Those three are all by Whalen. And you’ve got IG-88 ice fishing near an igloo, Leeloo driving a Lincoln in Las Vegas, and Mr. T taming a triceratops near a tent. Here are some of Perillo’s contributions:
So that’s a Jawa, Jaxxon, and Jar Jar jumping rope on Jakku, the Karate Kid kicking the Kool-Aid Man, and Walt washing his Winnebago.
Want more? Of course you do. Here are some previously revealed pieces.
That’s Zelda visiting a zol at the zoo.
Admiral Ackbar playing an accordion with an antelope.
Dracula driving Miss Daisy in a Dodge.
And, of course, Pokemon playing poker.
The full show will be revealed at 7pm on August 18 at Gallery 1988, 7308 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA. You can see the full exhibit online starting this Saturday at www.gallery1988.com.
