Though we won’t see products using it until 2007, Intel has become the first company to demonstrate a working 45 nanometer chip. It’s only SRAM, not a fully fledged processor, but it’s still a good step towards the next level of PCs, which Intel believes will have five times less power leakage and cooler running temperatures—allowing for higher clock rates. This would mean greater speed and battery life over current 65nm processors. Look for the new chips to come out of plants in Oregon, Arizona, and Israel in the next year.
