Just in Time for Halloween, John Carpenter Will Host a Showcase of Horror Shorts

El Rey, the Robert Rodriguez-founded network that specializes in cleverly-programmed B-movies (like the “Kaijuly Roarth” Godzilla marathon that ran July 4), is launching a series of specials highlighting new short films. The first entry will be all horror—and will be hosted by John Carpenter.

It’s titled The People’s Network Showcase; each quarterly episode will run two hours and feature works by indie filmmakers from around the world, interviews with the up-and-coming artists, and behind-the-scenes chats with established filmmakers, too (gonna guess that Rodriguez and his Grindhouse cohort Eli Roth might pop up during those segments). The People’s Network Showcase: Horror, hosted by the legendary director of Halloween and They Live, airs October 30.

There’s no hint of what future episodes might bring, only that each will focus on either a shared theme or genre in the El Rey vein. Two words: GIANT MONSTERS.
