On April 20, 2026, a recall was issued by California Dairies Inc. over powdered milk and buttermilk that was distributed across the country to manufacturers. The recall involves a concern over salmonella contamination and has impacted a surprisingly wide range of products, from potato chips to salad dressing to pizza. This week, another product was added to the list.

Sugar Foods LLC has recalled Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons that were sold from March 7, 2026, to April 7, 2026. The croutons are no longer in stores, but they have a long shelf life, and there’s concern that this product could be in plenty of pantries for an extended period of time, given their expiration date in 2027.

The FDA has a list of nine products on its website related to the recall, but that page hasn’t been updated since May 18 and doesn’t include the most recent additions.

Other products that have been recalled include:

Click through on each product recall above to see the various flavors that are involved. Because it’s not a short list. The Ghiradelli recall, for example, has 13 different varieties, from the Chocolate Flavored Frappe Mix to the White Chocolate Flavored Sweet Ground Powder.

Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, though most healthy people recover without medical intervention. There are about 1.35 million cases of salmonellosis in the U.S. each year, with 26,500 hospitalizations and 420 deaths, according to CDC estimates.

There are also several grocery store pizzas that have been recalled over salmonella concerns lately. The FSIS has a list on its website in PDF form:

  • Ole & Lena’s Pizzeria (Taco Pizza)
  • Henry’s Homestyle Pizza (Taco Pizza)
  • Kowalski’s Markets (Artisan Pizza)
  • Papa Bob Gourmet Pizza (Taco Pizza)
  • Roberto’s Pizza (Taco Pizza)
  • Brothers Market (Taco Pizza)
  • Randy’s (Taco Pizza)
  • Mama Cozzi’s (Biscuit Crust Sausage and cheese breakfast pizza)
  • Culinary Circle (Ultra Thin Crust Chicken and Bacon Ranch
  • Great Value (Thin Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch)
  • Great Value (Stuffed Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch)

The FSIS list also includes the Pork King Good recall of pork rinds, along with the pizzas, but it’s unclear why there’s so little overlap on the salmonella recall between the USDA-based agency and the FDA, which is housed under the Department of Health and Human Services.

HHS is, of course, overseen by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a man who’s pledged to Make America Healthy Again while doing precisely the opposite.
