Logitec dvdjuke Pod

Finally, a company goes and creates a decent “external hard drive that doubles as a media player,” and it happens to be Japan-only. Typical.

The Japanese firm “Logitec” is not to be mistaken for the American Swiss “Logitech,” but that’s not important. They have this new external hard drive available called the “dvdjuke Pod” in 40 and 80GB flavors that has media playback capabilities; it will play MPEG-1/2, DivX, XviD. For audio, it will play MP3, OGG, AAC, and all sorts of other formats. That’s the first reason I like the player—devices that support both DivX and XviD have been few and far between. It’s also equipped with S-Video output, optical audio output, and can even playback sub-legal DVD-Video image files (.iso for you warez types). I wasn’t particularly enthralled by the price, though; nearly $420 for the 80GB version and $311 for the 40GB version. With prices like that, you’d expect it to have integrated WiFi or something.
