MIDI—the Musical Instrument Digital Interface—lets anyone with just an electronic keyboard, or other simple interface device, recreate an entire orchestra’s worth of sounds. But what if you can’t even play a keyboard? That’s where a new piece of software called imitone can save the day, turning your voice (or other sounds) into an all-out symphony.

The software runs on a desktop or laptop computer, and interfaces with programs such as Garage Band to convert sounds like your voice into real-time MIDI signals to trigger synthesized instruments. So even if you can’t play along with Stairway To Heaven on a guitar, odds are you now how to hum the tune-and that’s all you need to do here.

The creator of imitone, Evan Balster, is currently raising funds on Kickstarter to help cover development costs. And to date the initiative has managed to raise over $43,000, well past its $20,000 goal. You can pre-order a copy of the software, which is set to be released in May, with a donation of just $25. Or reserve a copy of imitone prime for $60 which includes more advanced features and nationality. But either version might finally let you turn a profit with your amazing humming skills.
