The European PS3 launch details have finally been unveiled, with Sony deigning to let those of you across the pond know when you can sit in line all night in order to give them lots and lots of money. The date is March 23rd and the price, in the U.K. at least, is a whopping £425. That’s $842 in U.S. dollars, for you keeping track at home. That price is for the 60GB edition, as that’s the only version that Europeans will get. There will be 1 million of them for the entire continent. Have fun with that, guys.
Am I the only person who hasn’t gotten used to this new price point of game consoles? The $600 U.S. version still seems completely and totally insane to me, not to mention the $842 U.K. version, and I can’t in a million years imagine paying that much for a console. I love the Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy series as much as the next guy, but there’s just no way I could ever justify dropping that kind of cash on a PS3. Am I just a cheapskate out of touch with the current market, or am I not the only one that is just now realizing how badly Sony misjudged people’s willingness to pay upwards of $1,000 when picking up a new console with accessories and games?
