Professionals into High Definition video will dig Sony’s new “HVR-M10J” HDV recorder, intended for use with non-linear editing systems. Hell, I’m not an editing professional into high definition video, and I still like it. Not only does it support HDV up to 1080i, it also supports good old DVCAM and DV (SP), so you can take your high definition content and downscale it into standard content. Not that you’d want to do that. Connectors out the wazoo too—you’ll find i.Link, Component, Composite, S-Video, and even analog audio. A 3.5-inch widescreen LCD tops off the $4000 cake. Finally, it can run off the included 7.2V battery, and this battery can be charged with the AC adapter. Something about this system makes me wish I actually, you know, had something to record. And an HDTV camcorder. And an HDTV.
