We’ve been wondering about the story behind Roland Emmerich’s Singularity for a while now — and it sounds like it really is about the Raymond Kurzweil-style technological Singularity, with just a hint of robot uprising thrown in.

Talking to Collider, Emmerich says Singularity is already in pre-production, and will probably start filming in late March. And he describes the storyline a bit:

It takes place in the future 40 years from now. It’s like kind of this moment where computer technology is so advanced that we kind of-It’s the danger of losing control.

But he says it’s not a disaster movie, because he’s done too many of those — instead, it’s something “totally different,” something that “people haven’t seen yet.” And meanwhile, he says the rumors he was directing a film based on the video game Asteroids are false.

So are you excited to see Emmerich take on the rise of A.I.? [Collider]
