We are in the post-month-and-a-half-of-holidays slump in North America, leaving a number of shows on hiatus, but we have a couple of new ones to bring you. Space Dandy, a new anime with a superstar pedigree, starts this weekend, while My Little Pony takes a trip to NYC.

As always - minor spoilers ahead!

Space Dandy - "Live with the Flow, Baby"

Space Dandy, a brand new anime from the creators of Cowboy Bebop and Full Metal Alchemist begins airing on Cartoon Network during the Saturday night Toonami block. The story follows an bounty hunter, his feline side kick, and a robot assistant as they track down aliens across the cosmos.

Space Dandy is launching simultaneously in Japan and North America, so if you've ever wanted to get into an anime without a significant time delay, this is your chance. Heck, nothing else is on and Space Dandy looks like fun - check it out.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - "Rarity takes Manehattan"

The ponies head to Manehattan (wakka wakka) so Rarity can show off her wares (and sing a bunch per this clip) at a fashion show. I'm not sure Rarity can remain humble for long.

This is no lovechild. It's a cashcow prostitute just as scantily clad as the women in the first episode.

It's Johnny Bravo in space. If anything, Dandy is just a massive pervert.

I couldn't even finish it. These are both animes with complex, interesting storylines that actually have meaning. If someone is going to tell me that these need to be dumbed down in order to breach the minds of North America, then why are we still caring about such a market? There was no fighting, no wisdom imparted and barely any sense of a bounty hunter or a need for atonement, which both Cowboy Bebop and FMA both have. Dandy's just looking for breasts and hips.

And I'm pretty sure if they showed it to Yoko Kanno she'd not want to have any part in this monstrosity. Sorry if I'm being harsh but you're putting this up against Avatar: The Legend of Korra which just finished its 2nd season and telling me a superstar pedigree can't sit and think about storyline for one moment?

Can we just compare it with the first episode of Cowboy Bebop:

And then the first episode of Full Metal Alchemist which is a little more child friendly:

As for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - I've been informed that it's become very, very popular with the online furry community.
