Speed Golf Finally Makes the World's Most Boring Sport Exciting to Watch

Here’s an idea for a sport: What if a bunch of poorly-dressed athletes wandered around a grassy park for four hours casually hitting balls with a long stick? Here’s a less boring idea: What if those athletes were instead racing the clock to put the ball in the hole as quickly as possible? That’s the basic idea behind The Fastest Hole of Golf.

Teams from golf’s European Tour attempted to break the Guinness World Record for fastest hole of golf by a team of four. But they may have also stumbled on the perfect way to make watching golf on TV a lot less agonizing. And you could watch 18 holes in as much time as it takes to watch a sitcom.

What? Me Worry?

I’m one of those weird people who loves to watch golf. I don’t find it boring at all, and I don’t even play golf. I got sucked in about a year or two before Tiger showed up. I was stuck waiting to get some tires replaced, and I became enthralled with how good those guys are.

I find it more exiting than baseball (like that’s difficult...) though considerably less so than hockey. There can be a surprising amount of tension that builds, and the networks do a great job of (almost) always having something interesting to show.
