The road to The Batman Part II has been rocky, to say the least, and that pattern is continuing. Though production on the long-awaited film had been underway for over three months, Warner Bros. just announced it was pausing so writer-director Matt Reeves could deal with a personal matter.
“Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” read a Warner Bros. statement obtained by Deadline. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
Sources tell the trade that it’s too early to speculate on whether the stoppage will impact the film’s February 18, 2028 release date. But, you’d assume that depends on just how long production stops. Will it be days? Weeks? Months? It’s unclear.
What is clear is that whatever family matter Reeves has to deal with must be important. While it’s always easy to get impatient and possessive about our movies and pop culture, Reeves is a human just like all of us. Would you want to be forced to work when something presumably bad was happening in your personal life? It’s best for fans to be sympathetic and let him deal with whatever he has to without worrying about the pressures of the film. Then, hopefully, he’ll get back to it.
Removing that human element, though, it almost feels right that this film in particular is experiencing another delay of some kind. Don’t forget, originally, it was supposed to be released in October 2025 before being delayed almost half a dozen times. This one, however, is more significant because it’s not just Reeves at his home, sitting at a computer. It’s people in the United Kingdom, working on a film set. But, again, hopefully everything is okay with Reeves and his family and he can jump back into the film when he’s ready.
The Batman Part II stars Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch. It’s currently scheduled for release on February 18, 2028.
