Murderbot season one ended with the title character—a self-named, self-aware security unit crafted from artificial and organic parts—deciding to leave the humans he’d unexpectedly bonded with and strike out on a new adventure. That means Murderbot season two will have several new cast members when it hits Apple TV, and it sounds like a lot of actors were eager to join the Alexander Skarsgård-starring series.
Like, a lot. Here’s the full list, from Variety:
Blair Underwood, Brendan Hunt, Bridget Everett, Britne Oldford, Damian Young, Divian Ladwa, Ella Jay Basco, Etienne Beydon, Griffin Newman, Jaedynn Latter, Jason George, Kali Reis, Katy O’Brian, Maddy Strauss, Marc Menchaca, Martha Plimpton, Meredith Salenger, Michael Sheen, Nia Otchere-Sarfo, Nicholas Braun, Patton Oswalt, Steve Buscemi, Topher Grace, Tramell Tillman, and Wanda Sykes.
We would have jumped for joy for just Tramell Tillman, so all that other talent is just icing on the sci-fi cake. But if you were a fan of the touchy-feely Preservation Alliance team in season one, good news: as Variety reports, Noma Dumezweni (Mensah), David Dastmalchian (Gurathin), Sabrina Wu (Pin-Lee), Akshay Khanna (Ratthi), Tattiawna Jones (Arada), and Tamara Podemski (Bharadwaj) will all be back.
And, in perhaps the best news of all, Clark Gregg, John Cho, DeWanda Wise, and Jack McBrayer are also returning for season two, which means more episodes of Murderbot’s favorite in-universe soap opera, The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon, are absolutely on the way. Boldness is all!
Considering how closely season one followed the first book in Martha Wells’ Hugo and Nebula Award-winning Murderbot Diaries book series, All Systems Red, it’s likely season two will similarly adhere to the second book, Artificial Condition. The story follows Murderbot on a journey of self-discovery as it revisits a dark, mysterious, deadly chapter in its past—journeying to the mining facility where it caused the massacre glimpsed fleetingly in its memories in the first season.
Why did it go rogue, and what does Steve Buscemi have to do with it? We’ll find out when Murderbot season two hits Apple TV, which hopefully won’t take too long.
