When you think of the Offspring, you probably think of “Self-Esteem” or “Pretty Fly for a White Guy” instead of “I Choose.” That’s a damn shame. Don’t get me wrong, I dug a lot of their hits way back in the day, but I still dig “I Choose” now.
Off their 8th studio album Ix Nay on the Hombre, “I Choose” is just a fun song, all around. It’s upbeat, catchy, and has some delightfully inconsequential lyrics. To this day the “pretending I’m on airplane on the living room floor” line in the third verse are some of my favorite lyrics like ever. It’s by no means some kind of masterpiece for the ages, but it’s just pure fun, and that’s worth something. Also, dat bassline. An absolute joy to play.
