A nebula in space? The surface of a faraway planet? A fantastic sci-fi illustration? Or just microscopic goo? It's just ice, like the rest of these fantastic photos by Michael Wagner:

This set was created by back lighting blocks of ice with battery powered LED holiday lights. For equipment, I used a Canon 60D with a Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM, and Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM macro lens. Each picture is a combination of 15-40 shots that have been focus stacked to capture a larger depth of field.
Michael Wagner is a Senior Media Systems Engineer with the Mayo Clinic. He is in charge of the clinic's digital signage, digital exhibits, and interactive exhibits around their campuses.
