Around approximately 1900, Harmondsworth Magazine ran this tantalizingly absurd trick picture of a woman seemingly in eight places at once. Goodness, that’s a sight normally reserved for the fanciful hallows of the odeon!
Explains the caption, “A ubiquitous young lady who can be in eight places at once — the victim of a photographic freak.” Now I want to write a story about the Photographic Freak, a freewheeling blackguard who uses his newfangled Brownie to clone people, so those plutocrats in Washington ban all photography. (“Police sketch artist” thereby becomes the most important career in the land.)
