NHK and five other Japanese broadcast-related companies have finalized on the first proposed site for "Tokyo Tower 2." Sumida Ward, best known for "that building with the golden piece of crap on top," is in eastern Tokyo. In case you were wondering why we are reporting on such a thing, Japan is planning on dropping all analog TV broadcasts by the 2011; Tokyo Tower 2 will serve as an Eye of Sauron for terrestrial digital broadcasts. The new tower is planned to be about 600 meters (~2,000 feet) tall, easily dwarfing the current Tokyo Tower at 333 meters (~1,092 feet).
