In a play to get us to dig even deeper into our wallets every time we pay our cellphone bill, Verizon announced that it would start letting subscribers download music to their phones over its wireless network for just $1.99 a song (for wireless) and 99 cents if it goes to your computer first. Obviously an attempt to catch up to Sprint, which announced its music download service sometime late last year (and charges $2.50 a song), Verizon’s venture should begin on January 16. The company claims to have about 1 million songs, but we’ll see when we see.
