What if Mega Man received his own gritty live-action film?

There have been plenty of live-action video game movies pumped out by Hollywood, with the aggressively bizarre Street Fighter and Super Mario Bros. adaptations being the house favorites here at io9. And one iconic gaming character to completely eschew the film treatment is Mega Man, that plucky blue cyborg who can fire saw blades, ninja stars, icicles, and whatnot out of his arm cannon.

But what if there actually was a Mega Man movie? For a mere $700, director Olan Rogers created this nifty concept piece for a Mega Man X movie. There isn't a robotic dog who can turn into a submarine, but that's our only quibble here.

I'm guessing nobody's tackled a Mega Man movie after everyone was scarred by the North American box art upon the first game's 1987 release. Here's a synopsis of this short from Rogers, who used actual dialogue from the video games and set the film between the Mega Man and Mega Man X franchises:

The beginning part of the video is a message Dr. Light records over 100 years ago, his lab is now abandoned. As the camera moves into the capsule you see a still running testing parameter where Mega Man X fights a hologram or drone in the form of Protoman.
