Our ISP is currently Comcast, which is probably definitely throttling torrent traffic in this area, but how can we know for sure? Here's how. There's now a website that runs a little test, determining whether your ISP is throttling all traffic, all traffic on well-known BT ports, only BT traffic on well-known BT ports, or nothing at all. The full test takes seven minutes, but it's seven minutes well spent to find out whether you need another ISP. Or if you need to cut down on your PureTNA downloads. Hmm, seems the server must be quite hammered at the moment, wont load.
No workie for me either. It will be nice to see if Charter is throttling though.
@adamgamble: They should mirror or give out the source to the test, would be real nice and help their server from being hammered so much.
Useful tool though, will check it out at home and give the IO determination.
I have my pitchfork and torch at the ready.
Now the page loads, and they do have a source released...anyone know of a mirror? lol
The shitty thing about living in manhattan is that you don't really have many options when it comes to ISPs, so even if Time Warner was restricting, there isn't much i could do :(
wow that Comcast in my area is some mighty-fine evil.. don't find much evil like that 'round those other parts...
Oh goddammit Giz, you've crashed the server over at Max Planck. Now I'll never know if I'm being screwed...
There's an even easier way. Look at your cable bill. If the return address is Comcast, you're being throttled.
@MrBlahBlah: you have the option of Verizon Fios which is probably the best thing that's happened to the internet in a while...
I wish my DSL connection was fast enough for me to care about throttling...
/sad face
Does anyone trust results from a site that cannot keep it's own site running?
Talk about being throttled.
God damn you, Giz, for knowing my BT habits.
the code can be found here:

Looks like it was just submitted and frontpaged on digg.
Good luck using it.
@A Pimp Named DaveR:
I don't think so...your apartment building has to be wired for it. and mine is definitely not. While fios is in manhattan, it is only in certain places or buildings.
I guess I could always go DSL, but yuck.
Why is your ISP Comcast???? Come on. Set an example for the rest of us.
Giz let the word out...the server is too busy for my request.
I'm thinking just about every provider in Canada is throttled. (or, every provider where I live.. Ottawa) because they all go through a Rogers or Bell backbone.
I have Comcast in Houston, TX and I have seen no big issues with my download speeds. I'm thinking it's because we used to be Time Warner Cable and all they did was change the name...?
@tinascry: I've never noticed Comcast download speed issues, either...
