    I would've brown the chicken with some olive oil in the carafe without any water prior to step # 1.

    After the broth was done, Step #4, I would've saved most of it for the couscous aside and would have deglazed the carafe with the red wine, reduced it and saved the red sauce to dish with.

    Then I would've continued to step # 5.

    @aec007: That'd probably work in, you know, a pan, with actual heat. The burner on my $25 coffeemaker isn't really equipped to reduce wine, and like I said, it's not nearly hot enough to brown meat.

    I've got another MacGyver Chef post coming up that'll bring waaay too much heat, I promise.

    @Gary_7vn: Microwaves are for advance human beings.
    Cheap coffee makers (which I got for about $15) are for poor college kids :D
    So yay for MacGyver-ing dinner!

    @Gary_7vn: In my dorm, microwaves in room were verboten due to the power draw. Coffee makers were boten, though.

    Dan, don't you know you're supposed to serve a white wine with poultry and/or seafood, and a red wine with everything else? Surely even MacGyver himself knows this!

    @JP The BAMF: IIRC, and I usually do, MacGyver's only advice about wine was for Merlin NOT to drink it before strenuous activity, as it would make him thirstier.

    @appletoad: I wonder if that is what Dan meant when he said in the article:

    "Tomorrow's MacGyver Chef recipe will be an urban-legend favorite: Fish steamed in the dishwasher. Stay tuned."

    But I could be wrong.

    Hmm did you check the temperature of the chicken after cooking? I'm not sure I'd trust the coffee maker to stay hot enough.

    I used to make Ramen Noodles in my coffee maker in college. I put the seasoning in the basket with no filter. It was yummy.
