Cosplayers get it: anonymity can be a form of speech. What we learned this weekend is that the fandoms understand the importance of encryption and the dangers of facial recognition, and they’re willing to put their best costumes behind it.
With technology tracking us everywhere we go, cosplay might become our best defense against surveillance.
