The Walking Dead was a massive success, so it makes sense the AMC is hoping to squeeze out another post apocalyptic money maker. So Robert Kirkman and Gale Anne Hurd are planning a spinoff series.
THR is reporting that this new "companion series" will feature all new characters but it will be set in the same world Kirkman created in his comics. So zombies and stuff. Hoping for a 2015 release date, this is Kirkman's statement about the new show:
"After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe," Kirkman said. “The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."
Honestly, this could be a great thing. This way the series can actually do whatever the hell it wants and not become a slave to the source material. Or get compared negatively when the series doesn't live up to the original medium. Personally, I hope it's in a whole new place like Brooklyn. Now that could be fun.
