Sure, you can already explore exotic locales like Detroit, San Francisco, and the dark heart of Florida from your desk but now, in honor of World Forest’s Day, you can wander around in the Amazonian rainforest. You’re welcome.
This project has been in the works for months and is a collaboration between Google and the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation, a local non-profit conservation. It covers the main portion of the Rio Negro in Brazil, as well as its tributaries and parts of the Rio Negro Reserve, a restricted nature preserve that is largely inaccessible to the public. The Google Blog also promises the opportunity to “hike along an Amazon forest trail and see where Brazil nuts are harvested.”
