Ask a Physicist – Call For More Questions

Now you can ask a physicist your nagging questions about the inner workings of the cosmos. This twice-monthly column will, at very least, allow you to sound smart at cocktail parties.

The “Ask a Physicist” series was so much fun that io9 has decided to make it a regular column. Here’s the deal:

1. Send me your questions at [email protected]

2. Every couple of weeks, I’ll pick one to answer

3. You will argue in the comments section about whether I’m wrong.

We’ll tackle whatever you like: cosmology, quantum mechanics, black holes, interstellar travel, you name it. I’ll give you a no-nonsense answer about what physics really has to say about what you really want to know.

If you just can’t wait, or can’t stomach the possibility that your question won’t be answered, might I recommend that you check out my new book, A User’s Guide to the Universe: Surviving the Perils of Black Holes, Time Paradoxes, and Quantum Uncertainty? It’s even written in Q&A format for that interactive feel.

Only questions sent via email will be considered, so feel free to use the comments section to talk amongst yourselves.

Dave Goldberg is the author, with Jeff Blomquist, of “A User’s Guide to the Universe.” He is an associate professor of Physics at Drexel University.
