No rocks and no magma were used in the making of this volcanic photograph. Instead, Eszter Burghardt uses wool and clever lighting to evoke Iceland’s volcanos, geysers, and fjords.
Burghardt was inspired to create her Wooly Sagas series after a trip to Iceland. Her dressing of the images is interesting; in some shots, she seems to deliberately betray her materials, but in way that improves the texture of the photo as a whole. She takes a similar route in her Edible Vistas series, in which she sculpts convincing landscapes from dessert foods.
