We can’t always be all serious and nostalgic. It’s time to bust out a gif party of space-cakes. While we’re really hoping for some good moons, landings, and other astronomy themes, we won’t snub a sweet taste of planetary science, geoscience or scifi-inspired baking.

Top image: Is this adorable cake-and-cupcake combo from Small Town Girl Baker on the moon, or clustered around a particularly well-defined asteroid? It’s probably an asteroid, inspired by the NASA/Rovio Games partnership to produce the Angry Birds Asteroid Redirect Program, but it’s grey and cratered, so for today, it’s a moon.
Not every astronomy cake is for birthdays! This example is a wedding cake, with modified astronauts to celebrate the occasion. (Look closely for a veil and top hat for the astronauts, and a a “Just Married” sign on their lunar module.)
Mr. Meek’s groom’s cake was reportedly-delicious butter creme frosting sprinkled with Oreos for that moon-dust texture.
Out of the Bubble Bakery has a bit of a historical anachronism by pairing a space shuttle with an astronaut strolling on the moon, but considering it’s also got some friendly green aliens, I’m taking this as an alternate-history space-cake.
