Robin Williams once said that “cocaine is God’s way of telling you that you have too much money.” It seems that the spirit of that message still hasn’t gotten through to at least one movie lover, though, because as of this morning, someone out there is a) $59,850 poorer and b) the proud owner of the rhinoceros from whose asshole Jim Carrey emerged in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.
This piece of movie, um, history was one of the headline items available from movie memorabilia auctioneer Propstore’s spring auction. And while the rhinocerarse* is gone, there’s still a bunch of other stuff up for sale. Maybe there’s something there for you! Some highlights: a heap of Indiana Jones stuff, including a Raiders of the Lost Ark poster signed by Harrison Ford, along with a bunch of other cast and crew members (just $8,000 and counting!), and a scimitar from Temple of Doom.
Some of the material is genuinely fascinating—for example, several costume sketches from The Matrix that show that in a parallel universe, Neo and Trinity strut through the Matrix in weird beige crossover tunic-type things instead of their ultimately iconic black-leather-and-shades ensembles. If those appeal to you, perhaps you’d also fancy the jumpsuit that Lawrence Fishburne wore in Event Horizon as Sam Neill prepared to drag him into the depths of the Immaterium? It’s kinda ugly, admittedly, but where we’re going, you won’t need eyes.
And if we’re talking about horror: If you’ve ever wanted your very own copy of the Necronomicon and have $2,000 to spare, all your nightmares are about to come true. Just don’t blame us if, after the briefest glimpse of the loathsome text of this accursed book, you run frenzied into the night, laughing and weeping as your sanity quails at the cyclopean depths of the horror revealed.

If I had Too Much Money—and believe me, I absolutely do not—I’d probably plump for the above piece of concept art for the DeLorean from Back to the Future, which at the time of writing was going for $2,250. Or perhaps these storyboards from Blade Runner, on which the reserve has yet to be met. Meanwhile, while we’re on artwork, keep Williams’ wise words in mind as you consider that someone is currently on track to shell out $1,250 for this delightful piece of linework.
If you happen to have a bunch of disposable income and a penchant for movie paraphernalia, there’s probably something here for everyone. Be quick, though: the auction ends tomorrow, and the film and TV stuff is only up for the rest of the day.
* It was in fact the entire rhino on sale, not just the business end, but the chance to coin the word “rhinocerarse” was too good to pass up.
