Details have leaked about Sony Ericsson's new "super phone", and the specs sound impressive. But given the track record, can an Xperia ever actually be a phone that really matters?

Details have appeared on the official Bluetooth Special Interest Group site of a new Xperia, the LT28at. The Android phone packs a 4.55-inch screen with 720p Reality Display, and features LTE and HSPA radios in addition to TD-SCDMA support for Chinese networks.

Elsewhere, there's a 13-megapixel (!) camera with back-illuminated sensor and LED flash that's able to record video in 720p, a front-facing camera, dual microphones, 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.1.

So, there's a lack of processor and performance data here, but those specs make it sound like it could end up holding its own. It's just a shame that every other Xperia to date has sucked ass.

Still, this one is listed as "coming later" and will be available in North America — so we might get to see if this one sucks as much as its predecessors at CES. [Bluetooth Special Interest Group via The Verge; Image: John.Karakatsanis]
