Deadly Leopard Seal: Undersea Friend or Foe?

The ocean is filled with terrifying, deadly predators. Leopard seals—especially this unusually massive one—are chief among them. But as National Geographic photographer Paul Nicklen learned last year, not all seals are necessarily out to maul you.

In his case, all the seal wanted was to help Nicklen snack on some penguins. Or maybe the seal had always dreamed of being a model, and the whole penguin thing was just a pretense to get in front of the camera.

Saw the first episode of "Life" on blu-ray last night, in which a cameraman swam right up to a leopard seal in the Antarctic and stuck a camera in his face, and all he did was grin like a huge sea-dog. It's still awesome, but definitely old news.
