NYC’s Metropolitan Museum of Art has a fancy new air-filtration system which is miles ahead of anything we’ll ever seen in our homes; built to actually preserve the paintings and statues that make up the Cloisters section.
Built by IBM, the Lower-Power Mote system uses sensors to track the temperature, humidity, air flow, contamination, and even lighting in the Cloisters’ various sections, all while using less power than before. Helping preserve the artwork in real-time, it also provides the museum with hard data on how the art is faring, in a slick 3D interface. [Smart Planet]
