Eddie Murphy’s new alien abduction comedy can’t be worse than Pluto Nash… right?

Having sworn off family-friendly comedies for now, Eddie Murphy has returned to making terrible science fiction movies instead. His next project: an alien abduction side-slapper.

In a print interview with Rolling Stone Murphy revealed the ridiculously long name of his next planned feature:

“I have this idea called Jamal and Tyrell and Omar and Brick and Michael’s Wack-Ass Weekend, about this group of guys who get abducted by aliens on the way to the fights. I’m writing that now.”

Is it even worth getting our hopes up for something funny, from the man who made Meet Dave and Pluto Nash? Total FIlm reminds us that Tower Heist was originally planned as an ensemble comedy with Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and Tracy Morgan. Could this very long titled project pick up where Tower Heist failed? As much as we hated Meet Dave — and we really hated Meet Dave — Beverly Hills Cop is still one of the funniest movies ever made. Could aliens bring back the Murphy we all know and love? Probably not, but wouldn’t it be nice?
