It’s so interesting to watch the magic material that is graphene get made, because you can’t really see a damn thing. It’s totally transparent and only one atom thick, so it’s basically creating invisibility with the help of other materials.
A copper foil sheet is used, along with argon gas, in a furnace to drive out oxygen that spits graphene onto the copper foil sheet. Liquid plastic is then dropped on the sheet and the whole thing is spun around at 3,000 RPM. After that, it’s dipped into various liquid solutions to rid itself of the copper and be cleaned of any contaminants. But it’s not made quite yet. It’s then slid onto a silicon chip, evaporated with gold pellets, and blasted with plasma gas. A lot of work to make something you can’t even see!
