Is Porn Banned in Nebraska? Which Sites Work in November 2026

Disclaimer: This page is written for adults. Gizmodo supports Nebraska’s effort to keep explicit material away from minors. Explicit material is restricted to adults in Nebraska. Our interest is the privacy of legal adults, whose identity documents now pass through third-party companies with their own breach history.

Pornhub went dark in Nebraska on July 15, 2024, four days before the state’s age verification law started, and it hasn’t come back. Its free sister sites went with it. Several other large sites remained, but they now require an age check before the videos play.

So is porn actually banned in Nebraska, and which sites still work there for adults? The setup steps are next, then the law and a site-by-site look at what works.

Is Porn Banned in Nebraska?

No, porn isn’t banned in Nebraska. The state’s Online Age Verification Liability Act, known as LB 1092, regulates adult websites and places no duty or penalty on the adults who visit them. Pornhub is missing because its owner, Aylo, decided to block Nebraska instead of verifying visitors’ ages.

As of November 2026, Pornhub doesn’t accept new accounts from Nebraska, and only existing members can sign in. Visitors in North Carolina get the same screen. Nebraska still criminalizes certain material regardless of age.

That includes child sexual abuse material, which has included AI-generated images since 2025, and intimate images shared without the subject’s consent.

What Porn Sites Can You Access in Nebraska?

An Omaha server showed us what Nebraska visitors get on the largest sites in November:

• Pornhub: no new registrations
• YouPorn: blocked
• xHamster: pages load, but videos stay blurred until an age check
• Chaturbate: age check by face scan, ID scan, or Yoti, or a sign-in with an already verified account

The sites that check ages let visitors browse first and keep the explicit part behind the check. For example, xHamster shows its pages normally but covers the player with an age verification prompt. Chaturbate’s options in Nebraska are slightly narrower than in some other states, with no email option on offer.

Nebraska’s Porn Law in Brief

Governor Jim Pillen signed LB 1092 on April 16, 2024, and it has been in force since July 19, 2024. Here’s what it requires:

• Which sites: commercial websites where harmful-to-minors material tops one-third of the total
• Accepted checks: a digital or government-issued ID, a financial document, or records such as mortgage or employment data
• ID data: once a visitor is through, neither the site nor its verification partner may store that person’s identifying details
• Enforcement: private lawsuits only, with courts awarding actual damages

As in Virginia, enforcement depends entirely on private lawsuits. No group has sued to stop LB 1092, and later bills haven’t changed it. A newer law lets people sue over obscene material on public websites, but obscenity is a narrow legal category that doesn’t cover most adult content. None of these laws mentions VPNs.

Colorado Is the Only Neighbor Without a Law

Nebraska borders six states, and five of them now have age-check laws for adult sites. Iowa became the latest in July 2026.

That makes Denver the closest option in a neighboring state. NordVPN, Proton VPN, and ExpressVPN offer Denver among their US cities. Illinois and Minnesota also lack such a law, and from Omaha, Minneapolis and Chicago servers are a little closer than Denver.

A Canadian IP address works too, since Canada hasn’t passed an age-check law. Avoid Omaha and any other Nebraska server, which keeps the connection in the state.

Three VPNs With Denver Servers

We speed-tested each VPN on Denver servers in November. Our top VPN picks include all three but here’s why they’re adequate for this particular scenario.

NordVPN: Best for Malware Protection on Tube Sites

NordVPN adds next-gen antivirus to its Complete plan, and it scans files as they download to keep them away from your device. Some porn tube sites push fake video players and download prompts that hide malware, so that scan adds protection.

It works in the desktop apps only, so on a phone, skip downloading files from tube sites. Its Denver servers were quick enough for 4K video several times over. and I had zero issues when I increased video quality. I also tested NordVPN on farther locations, and speeds held up well.

Proton VPN: Best for Setting a Default Location

Proton VPN lets paid users choose what the Connect button does in its Windows and mobile apps. Set it to a recent Denver connection once, and every later session starts in Colorado. The Windows and Android apps can also exclude whole states from the fastest-server pick, so a quick tap never puts you on a Nebraska server.

On an iPhone, the Denver default does the same job, since only Windows and Android support state exclusions. Proton VPN’s US network is also smaller than NordVPN’s, though Denver is part of it.

ExpressVPN: Best for First-Time VPN Users

ExpressVPN keeps its apps simple, with one large button on the home screen and the settings kept out of the way. For a first VPN, that makes the Denver setup easy to get right.

Its Smart Location feature picks a server automatically, and from Nebraska, that can mean a server in the state. Choose Denver from the location list once, and the main button reconnects to it from then on.

Summary

Nebraska’s law changed which adult sites work in the state, but it didn’t ban porn. Pornhub accepts no new Nebraska accounts, YouPorn is off-limits, and sites such as Chaturbate verify ages before showing a stream.

With Colorado as the only bordering state free of these rules, a Denver server is the simplest way to get Pornhub working again. If you also browse on a phone, install the VPN there as well.

A phone on Nebraska Wi-Fi or mobile data still has a Nebraska IP address, so it shows the same restrictions until the VPN connects. Each of the top VPNs for Pornhub covers several devices on one subscription.
