How to Watch Porn in Iowa: Unblock Pornhub and Other Sites in 2026

Disclaimer: This page is written for adults. Gizmodo supports Iowa’s effort to keep explicit material away from minors. If you’re under 18, viewing this content is illegal in Iowa. Our interest is the privacy of legal adults, whose identity documents now pass through third-party companies with their own breach history.

Since July 1, watching porn in Iowa works differently depending on the site. Aylo’s sites, including Pornhub, RedTube, and YouPorn, restrict Iowa visitors; some sites ask for proof of age, and a few still work as they always did.

Adults who’d rather not send an ID or a face scan to a third-party company are left with two questions: which sites still work, and how to protect their privacy while using them. The setup comes first, and the details on each site follow.

What Iowa’s New Porn Law Requires

Iowa House File 864 took effect on July 1 and covers any site where at least a third of the content is harmful to minors. Those sites must verify visitors’ ages through a digital ID, transaction data such as a card check, or another method the attorney general approves.

Iowa is one of more than 25 states with a law like this, and West Virginia’s version took effect only weeks earlier. Porn itself remains legal for adults. The state attorney general enforces the law against sites, with fines of up to $1,000 per access and a cap of $10,000 a day, and visitors face no penalty.

Aylo, the company behind Pornhub, RedTube, YouPorn, and Tube8, doesn’t collect IDs, so it blocks Iowa visitors, and those sites now show a notice or limit access to verified accounts. The sites that remain available, such as xHamster, Stripchat, and Chaturbate, send visitors to third-party verification: an ID upload, a selfie, or a card check.

That’s the privacy problem. Verification companies store sensitive documents, and reports in September linked a breach to one that processes ID scans. A VPN doesn’t touch that data, but it does hide your IP address and encrypt your traffic, so the site and your internet provider can’t see what you do online. Viewers must be 18 or older.

How to Unblock Porn in Iowa

Adult sites use your IP address to place you in Iowa, and NordVPN changes it to the location you pick. After you subscribe to NordVPN, install the app, and sign in, search for New York in the server list and connect.

New York and Canada don’t have a porn law like Iowa’s, and I chose New York for the better speeds. The same method is common for using Pornhub with a VPN in other states. Once connected, Pornhub worked normally, and every free video streamed in Full HD.

RedTube, YouPorn, Tube8, and a few other blocked sites worked the same way. The method is the one that works in Texas and in other states with similar laws.

Porn Sites Available in Iowa in October 2026

Aylo’s sites changed the most after July 1, while most other adult sites kept operating. The table shows how each one behaves for Iowa visitors:

Site	Works in Iowa in October?	Age check required?
Pornhub	Restricted	Verified account login only
RedTube	Blocked	No
YouPorn	Blocked	No
Tube8	Blocked	No
XNXX	Available	No
XVideos	Available	No
xHamster	Available	Yes
Brazzers	Available	At sign-up
Chaturbate	Available	Yes
Stripchat	Available	Yes
SpankBang	Available	No
Eporner	Available	No

Brazzers, a premium site, is the one Aylo exception, and joining requires an age check. xHamster, Stripchat, and Chaturbate also require one in Iowa, while XNXX, XVideos, SpankBang, and Eporner remain accessible without it. The table changes whenever a site changes its policy, so I’ll keep you in the loop.

Four VPNs That Work for Porn in Iowa in 2026

Of the 15 VPNs tested on adult sites, 4 unblocked every site in the table at Full HD speeds. Their results follow.

1. NordVPN: Best for every adult site, with the strongest privacy tools
2. Proton VPN: Best for privacy, with Secure Core servers and open-source apps
3. ExpressVPN: Best for simple apps and Full HD
4. Private Internet Access: Best for a low price and unlimited devices

1. NordVPN: Best for Every Adult Site in Iowa

NordVPN unblocked Pornhub, RedTube, YouPorn, and Tube8 on its New York server, and ten other popular adult sites worked as well. With NordLynx, its WireGuard-based protocol, I rarely lost more than 6% of my speed, so Full HD videos streamed without stuttering.

It was the same story when I checked Pornhub in Nebraska, Iowa’s neighbor. Privacy is the other strength. Double VPN servers send traffic through two servers for extra encryption, and obfuscated servers hide VPN use in censored regions such as Saudi Arabia.

I subscribed to the Complete plan, so I also had Next-gen Antivirus, and it blocked trackers and ads on Pornhub and other adult sites. NordVPN keeps no logs, and an independent audit has confirmed the policy. Its servers use RAM only, so nothing is written to disk, and one subscription protects up to 10 devices.

It costs about $3.50 a month on a long-term plan, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

2. Proton VPN: Best for Privacy

Proton VPN’s Secure Core servers send traffic through two servers, and the first one belongs to Proton VPN itself. I also used NetShield heavily, and it blocked trackers and ads on adult sites. On the New York server, Proton VPN matched NordVPN for speed: I lost about 6% using WireGuard and its VPN Accelerator, and videos streamed without buffering.

Every site in the table worked on Proton VPN. Privacy rests on 256-bit encryption, a kill switch against leaks, an audited no-log policy, and full-disk encryption on its servers. Its apps work on all major devices, and their source code is public, so anyone can inspect it.

The Stealth protocol disguises VPN traffic on restrictive networks. Proton VPN has no Smart DNS and no free trial, but it costs around $3 a month, and the 30-day money-back guarantee covers a test run. The full breakdown is in our Proton VPN review.

3. ExpressVPN: Best for Simple Apps and Full HD

ExpressVPN has fewer advanced features than the others, but its apps are the easiest to use. Its in-house Lightway Turbo protocol unblocked Pornhub, RedTube, Brazzers, and xHamster, with a speed loss of only 8% on the New York server, a good result for a connection from Iowa.

It connected in seconds, and I never noticed the app working in the background. A kill switch protects against leaks, Advanced Protection (Threat Manager on iOS and Android) blocks ads and trackers, and Parental Controls can block adult sites on shared devices.

The no-logs policy has been independently audited and tested in court. Obfuscation is built into every server and starts automatically when needed, as it did when I used it to watch porn in Bali.

ExpressVPN covers 10 to 14 devices depending on the plan, costs around $3 a month on a long-term plan, and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

4. Private Internet Access: Best Low-Cost VPN for Iowa

Private Internet Access has servers across the US, so a fast one is usually nearby. On the New York server, the speed loss was about 10%, and Pornhub and XNXX still streamed in Full HD without buffering. The VPN uses 256-bit GCM encryption and offers MultiHop, and Shadowsocks provides obfuscation.

PIA MACE blocks ads, and its RAM-only servers leave no data on disk. The no-logs policy has been independently audited and proven in several court cases. One subscription protects an unlimited number of devices, so every phone and laptop in a household is covered.

At about $2 a month, PIA is one of the lowest-priced VPNs available, and the 30-day money-back guarantee also applies. The interface is cluttered, and speeds vary between servers, but I still rank it high on my overall Best VPN list for its security and price.

Are Free VPNs Worth Using for Iowa Porn Sites?

A free VPN can unblock adult sites in Iowa, and free VPNs are far better than they used to be. Even so, most lack the speed, privacy, and unblocking power of paid VPNs. Videos stream slowly, so the resolution usually has to go down.

I’ll also mention that many free VPNs cap monthly data, which makes them unreliable for regular viewing. Privacy is the bigger concern. Free VPNs often earn money from user data, which means they store connection logs and sell them to data brokers.

I saw this while reviewing Hola VPN, one of the least safe free VPNs available. Most free VPNs also limit the number of devices, while paid VPNs protect 10 devices or more, which works better for families.

Conclusion

Iowa’s law moved the age check from visitors to websites, and Aylo’s sites responded by leaving. The other adult sites either verify visitors or continue to work as before. A VPN with a server in another state is how adults keep using the sites they chose.

It hides their IP address and encrypts their traffic along the way. A New York server worked well in our tests, and a Canadian server is the fallback if a site doesn’t respond, which honestly rarely happens.
