Best VPN for xHamster in 2026 Compared on Privacy and Ad Blockers

Disclaimer: This page is written for adults. Gizmodo supports efforts to keep explicit material away from minors. Explicit material is restricted to adults in the US, the UK, and most other countries, and where adult content is illegal at any age, local law applies. Our interest is the privacy of legal adults, whose identity documents now pass through third-party companies with their own breach history.

xHamster is one of the biggest free adult video sites in the world, and for a long time it worked the same way almost everywhere. However, that has changed. In many US states and in the UK, France, and Australia, it now requires visitors to create an account and prove their age, while internet providers in countries such as India and Turkey block it completely.

Privacy is the other concern, because an internet provider can log every site a customer visits. A VPN encrypts your traffic and replaces your IP address, so your internet provider can’t see which sites you visit. 5 of the 20 VPNs we’ve tested made the cut for xHamster, and the shortlist is right below.

xHamster VPNs Side by Side

We speed-tested each VPN on US servers from a connection in Europe, and put each built-in ad blocker through the same online ad-block test. Each speed-loss figure is relative to our plain connection, with no VPN in between.

xHamster VPN Reviews: Speed, Privacy, and Ad Blocking

All five worked with xHamster in our tests. The differences lie in speed, privacy protections, and how well each one blocks the ads that fill adult sites.

1. NordVPN: Best All-Round xHamster VPN

NordVPN lost just 4.7% of our speed on US servers, so HD and 4K videos start quickly and play smoothly. With servers in 152 countries, it’s also easy to pick a location where xHamster works normally, and the same connection helps with accessing Pornhub and other adult sites that block certain states.

On privacy, NordVPN’s no-logs policy has been independently audited several times, so there’s no record of your browsing to hand over. Its app-level kill switch can close chosen apps, such as your browser, the moment the VPN drops, so the browser can’t load pages over your own IP address.

With Double VPN, your connection passes through a second server with another layer of encryption, which costs only about 3% of speed in our tests. The catch, however, is ad blocking. Next-Gen Antivirus, which includes the full ad and malware blocker, starts on the Complete plan, so the Basic plan won’t remove xHamster’s pop-ups.

If the ads bother you, the Complete plan costs about $1 a month more. Expect to pay a little under $3.50 a month for Basic on a two-year term, and we’d start here for most adults who want speed and privacy in one app.

2. Proton VPN: Best for Privacy

Proton VPN is made by the Swiss company behind Proton Mail, so Swiss privacy law covers it. Independent auditors have checked its no-logs policy every year, and its kill switch didn’t let a single packet out when we pulled the cable mid-session. On US servers, it had an 8.8% speed loss. On ad-heavy adult sites, enable NetShield.

It blocked 93% of the ads and trackers on our test page, so most pop-ups and redirect pages disappear. Secure Core goes further, sending you first through hardened servers Proton owns in privacy-friendly countries, which cut our speed by about 12%. Proton VPN doesn’t offer post-quantum encryption yet.

And honestly, I find it a bit disappointing for such a privacy-focused service.  Its current encryption still protects everyday browsing, and Proton has started work to add it. A two-year plan brings the price down to about $3.50 a month, and for adults who put privacy first, it’s the best option here.

3. ExpressVPN: Best for One-Tap Connections

ExpressVPN’s app connected in one to two seconds, quicker than any other VPN we’ve timed, and it had a 7% speed loss on US servers. The apps are simple to use on phones, laptops, Fire TV, and Apple TV, and the default settings work well without changes. On the privacy side, its servers use RAM only.

They keep nothing on a hard drive, and every restart clears them. Its kill switch blocked all traffic when we pulled the cable, too, so a dropped VPN connection doesn’t expose your IP address. Ad blocking, on the other hand, is less effective. Advanced Protection scored 71% in our ad-block test.

The Basic plan includes only a lighter version that leaves trackers alone, so pair it with a browser ad blocker on adult sites. There’s no multi-hop option either, so for double encryption, look to Double VPN on NordVPN or Secure Core on Proton VPN. On a two-year subscription, ExpressVPN costs about $3 a month.

4. Surfshark: Best for Keeping Your Email Private

Surfshark’s Alternative ID is the feature we’d use most on adult sites. It generates a separate email address and online persona for sign-ups, so if you sign up on xHamster, the site’s messages go to that alias instead of your main inbox. On US servers, Surfshark had a 10.5% speed loss.

It’s a drop so small that it won’t show on xHamster or other streaming sites. CleanWeb, included on every plan, blocked 79% of the test ads, which removes most pop-ups. Connections are occasionally slow to start, and when that happens, switching to another server usually fixes it.

The longest plan is about $2.50 a month and covers unlimited devices, from your phone to a laptop and a TV, so it’s among the cheapest options now.

5. Private Internet Access: Best for Ad-Heavy Pages

Private Internet Access’s MACE blocker stopped 96% of the test ads, the best result we’ve recorded from a VPN, so most banners and pop-ups disappear from adult pages. On US servers, it had a 7.7% speed loss. PIA’s no-logs policy has been tested in court: when US authorities requested user data, there was nothing to hand over.

The network also covers 113 countries, and for extra protection against malicious downloads, you can pair the VPN with antivirus from PIA. One result surprised me. With the default kill switch, PIA let traffic out while my PC restarted, and I didn’t expect that from a VPN that puts so much weight on privacy.

Its Advanced Kill Switch passed the same restart test, so enable that one. The app also looks dated, though every setting is there once you find it. At around $2 a month on its longest plan, PIA is one of the better cheap VPNs for adult sites.

How to Use a VPN With xHamster

Setup takes a few minutes with any of these five VPNs:

1. Pick a VPN from the list and install it on the device you’ll use.
2. Connect to a server in New York or Canada, where xHamster works as usual.
3. Open xHamster in a private window, so the visit leaves no cookies or history on your device.

Your internet provider also stops seeing which sites you visit, which helps if it slows down video streaming or if you simply want more privacy during porn-watching sessions.

Where xHamster Requires Age Checks

The experience on xHamster changes from place to place:

• US states with age-verification laws: in many of them, you’ll have to sign up and verify your age before a video plays, for example, in Louisiana. In Alabama, xHamster blocks the site instead.
• Nebraska and Indiana: pages load, but videos remain blurred until the check is done. Pornhub, by contrast, blocks visitors from Nebraska.
• Australia, France, and the UK: national rules apply, and xHamster hands the age check to third-party verification firms.
• India, Indonesia, Turkey, and the UAE: internet providers block the site.

Elsewhere, including New York and Canada, the site works with no extra steps.

xHamster Proxies, Mirrors, and Fake Copies

Search for an xHamster proxy, and you’ll find mirror sites, web proxies, and look-alike domains. But most of them are risky:

• Fake copies: security researchers found cloned xHamster sites that showed a fake Windows update screen and installed password-stealing malware.
• Free web proxies: studies of public proxies found many of them altering pages, adding ads, or leaking the visitor’s IP address.
• Unofficial domains: xHamster uses a few official alternate domains, but names like “xhamster2026” aren’t among them. Treat look-alike domains with a year in the name with suspicion.

A VPN avoids these problems because you visit the genuine xHamster site, and the encryption covers your whole device. The same risks apply to proxy sites for other adult sites, such as XVideos.

Free VPNs and xHamster

Of the free VPNs we’ve tested, Proton VPN’s free plan is the best fit for adult sites. There’s no data cap, but the app picks the server for you and allows one device. Other reputable free VPNs cap your data, often at about 10 GB a month.

Based on my own tests, it covers only a few hours of HD video, which may be enough when you only use it to watch porn, but not if you do anything else, and do it often. Above all, avoid unknown free VPN apps. The FBI has warned about free VPNs that secretly turned users’ devices into part of a criminal network.

Verdict

A VPN keeps your xHamster visits private from your internet provider and encrypts your connection on any network. NordVPN covers speed and privacy in one app, while Proton VPN suits adults who want Swiss privacy law behind them. On a tighter budget, Surfshark and PIA cost less.

Keep an ad blocker enabled on adult sites, either the VPN’s own or one in your browser. Pop-ups and fake download buttons are a common source of malware there, and a blocker removes most of them.
