Is Babylon 5 gearing up for a big comeback?

Is Babylon 5 in the midst of a big comeback? The original Alfred Bester, Walter Koenig, spilled the beans on creator J. Michael Straczynski's new plans to bring the series back.

According to Trek Movie, Koenig (who is probably best known as Pavel Chekov from Star Trek) appeared at the Las Vegas Star Trek convention, and had this to say about Babylon 5:

"[J Michael Straczynski] told me that he is in negotiations to re-acquire the rights to Babylon 5 and it looks pretty good. Now what that portends I am not entirely sure. It could be a new series or it could be a feature film, but he was quite animated about it. He seemed very excited and Warner Brothers is dealing with him in good faith. So you might see another Babylon 5 in the not too distant future."

Last we heard about a Babylon 5 comeback, there were rumors about straight-to-DVD movies. But that, sadly, never came to pass. Honestly, I'm not sure you can make a gritty B5 reboot, but we'd certainly be interested in watching a few (well made) TV movies from the shows creators. The tech advances in CG might even help "update" some of the more... silly alien looks. Do you want more B5?

No. I just finished re-watching the entire series, all the TV movies, and the spin-off Crusade. The last two seasons were pretty bad, and most of the movies and Crusade were almost unwatchable. It's pretty clear that the creators/writers ran out of ideas a long time ago.

Before I get totally spanked from the B5 fanboys... I loved the Shadow War storyline. The first three seasons were a brilliant story, even if the acting and writing were sometimes subpar. After that, though, the show completely lost its way and never found its footing again.
